    The Ring as Whole, Dynamic, Living Unit

    I customized this ring to have 3mm width Bethlehem olive wood and a darker olive-green tourmaline stone. Jonathan was communicative and easy to work with and the resulting ring is elegant and sophisticated. The fit was exactly as advertised. Where the vast majority of engagement rings end up being diminished placeholders for the precious stone they carry, this ring is unique in how the setting, inlay and stone work together to tell a complete story. I was looking forward to seeing the wood grain in the inlay of the ring as a kind of reminder that this wood was once alive. Jonathan’s choice of cut for the wood inlay, subtly drifting from lighter to darker shades of olive wood, was inspired and beautifully superimposed something like the symbolic passage of a single day over the span of generations of lived time experienced by the tree itself. The ring was wildly successful, and we look forward to tending to it over the decades to come.
